Supercell | Clash of Clans

Overview

Celebrating its 10th anniversary in August 2022, Clash of Clans, one of the world’s most popular mobile games, marked the occasion with the Clash From The Past campaign. Supercell and their creative agency Wieden + Kennedy, crafted a documentary and campaign spanning 40 fictional years of Clash of Clans. As part of this initiative, we developed three mini-games, each evoking the gaming trends that defined their respective decades. These games were prominently featured in the campaign's fictional documentary, "Clash From The Past: The Untold Story," and were made accessible to fans within the Clash of Clans mobile app.

Clash From The Past Storyline

In anticipation of the game's tenth anniversary, Barbarian, one of the original characters, begins to feel undervalued. As he retreats in contemplation, questioning his role in the game, he is suddenly transported back in time to the "original" Clash game of the 1980s. To guide Barbarian back to the present, players must engage and triumph in three Clash of Clans games. Each game represents different decades in fake Clash of Clans history: the 80s, 90s, and 00s. Beware! Evil goblins tail Barbarian throughout his journey, leading to an epic in-game battle in the present day.

1980s
CLASH

For the 1980s, we introduced an arcade platformer called "Clash." Players step into the shoes of Clash of Clans' Barbarian. During the game, players demolish buildings in a quest to retrieve Barbarian’s stolen sword. While searching for the sword, players must contend with the goblins determined to impede their progress

1990s
Clash Dash

In the 1990s, we unveiled "Clash Dash," a racing game reminiscent of titles like Mario Kart and Crash Team Racing. Players have the option to play as one of six iconic Clash of Clans characters. Racing through a Clash of Clans village, their aim is to catch up to the siege machine carrying the goblins and Barbarian's stolen sword.

2000s
Clash: Cradle of Darkness

Stepping into the 2000s, we created” Clash: Cradle of Darkness," a fusion of role-playing and boss battle games. Think a blend of Elder Scrolls and Kingdom Hearts. Here, players finally encounter the Goblin King, the mastermind behind this time-traveling escapade. Users engage in a battle to reclaim Barbarian's sword propels, which sends them back to present day Clash of Clans.

Seamless Storytelling through In-Game Cut Scenes

To maintain the narrative flow across all the games, we meticulously crafted a series of cut scenes, mirroring both the gaming style and the aesthetics of other cut scenes from their respective time periods.
